The mica group includes 37 phyllosilicate minerals. All crystallize in the monoclinic system, with a tendency towards pseudohexagonal crystals, and are similar in structure but vary in chemical composition. Micas are translucent to opaque with a distinct vitreous or pearly luster, and different mica minerals display colors ranging from white to green or red to black. Deposits of mica tend to have a flaky or platy appearance.
25/9/2020· In practice, the widely used mica underground mining methods are horizontal layered filling mining and ore retention, stage forced caving and stage mine combined mining. Mica underground mining, like other minerals, is digging a series of tunnels
19/9/2018· This will either be open pit or deep shaft mining. The whole process of extracting natural mica is extremely labour intensive, since the crystals must be hand sorted, ready for processing. This involves the careful grading, splitting and cutting of mica crystals. Mica crystals are formed in distinct layers and are in fact known as sheet silicates.
Sheet mica is recovered by either sinking a shaft along the strike and dip of a pegmatite or by open pit surface mining of semi hard pegmatite ore. In either case, it is a very economically risky mining procedure because of the cost involved in locating the vein and the unpredictability of the quality and quantity of the mica that might be recovered once the vein is located and worked.
In two major mica producing countries, India and Madagascar, mica supply chains rely heavily on artisanal and small scale extraction as well as manual processing. Reports in recent years have highlighted instances of child labor, illegal operations and unsafe health and safety conditions in mica production and processing.
Crushing and grinding plant for mica mining operation in India. In mica mining process, several different types of machines are involved such as drilling and blasting machine, extraction plant, quarry crusher equipment, grinding mill, screening machine etc. Read more.
Uses of mica. It helps in preventing cracks by acting as wadding in gypsum wall board combined compound. It is mostly used for this process. Mica is a bad conductor of electricity and can endure high temperature. India accounts for large portion of mica export across the world. Below are the mica uses in everyday life: Mica mineral; Mica powder
Mica is a mineral name given to a group of minerals that are physically and chemically similar. They are all silicate minerals, known as sheet silicates because they form in distinct layers. Micas are fairly light and relatively soft, and the sheets and flakes of mica are flexible. Mica is heat resistant and does not conduct electricity.
